2010 Toyota President's Award Winner, Tim Pearson
Tim Pearson is pictured (left) with outgoing Iowa Soccer Board Chair Jim Albertson (right). A Toyota President's Award Winner is chosen by the Chair annually.
As a coach, a founder, a tournament director, an administrator, a President, an Ambassador, and a Hall of Famer, Tim Pearson has furthered soccer in our state on many levels. Getting his start in the Urbandale Soccer Club by coaching his sons, he eventually won multiple Iowa State Cup championships. He started the Hy-Vee Classic tournament, which has since grown into the Urbandale Holiday Inn Classic. As Urbandale soccer grew, so did the need for a facility, which Tim helped develop.
When he presided over the Greater Des Moines Junior Soccer League as President, he helped the James S. Cownie Soccer Complex grow from a dream to a reality.
In 1999, he got his start at the state level, serving as a Member-at-Large on the Iowa Soccer Board. In 2000, he became Executive Vice President, and took over in 2002 for five years as President. While in office, he co-chaired the Local Organizing Committee that secured the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series (NCS) Midwest Region Championships for 2003 and 2007, as well as the 2006 US Youth Soccer NCS National Championship – all held at the Cownie Soccer Complex.
His most recent position has been Chair of the Local Organizing Committee to bring regional and national championships back to Des Moines, and his leadership was again instrumental to winning bids. Iowa (and the Cownie Soccer Complex) has been awarded the 2011 US Youth Soccer President’s Cup National Championship and the 2013 US Youth Soccer NCS Midwest Region Championship.
Pearson’s most recent feats are why he was selected by Iowa Soccer Board Chair Jim Albertson as Iowa’s 2010 Toyota President’s Award recipient. He states, “It has been through Tim’s leadership, diligence, and tireless effort that soccer in Iowa has been able to showcase to rest of the nation what we have to offer and how we get things done. I am extremely proud to designate him as the recipient of the 2010 Toyota President’s Award for Iowa.”

Regional Fair Play Awards go to Three Iowa State Cup Champions
DES MOINES, Iowa (August 11, 2011) – Iowa Soccer is proud to announce that three Iowa State Cup Champion teams received recognition for their outstanding sportsmanship at the 2011 US Youth Soccer National Championship Series Region II Championships. The annual competition was held in Appleton, Wis. in late June and includes State Cup Champion teams from the 14-state Region II.
West Des Moines Soccer Club’s (WDMSC) Under 13 and Under 15 Boys, along with Eastern Iowa United’s (EIU) Under 17 Boys received the “Fair Play Award” for their respective age groups. Only one team per age group receives the award, determined by a point system that referees assign teams after each of three pool play matches.
WDMSC President John Breed stated enthusiastically, “The West Des Moines Soccer Club is incredibly proud to be selected for these awards! To have our teams demonstrate such strong character and sportsmanship while playing at a very high level of competition is a fantastic testament to our players, parents and coaches. Thanks to Iowa Soccer and Region II for all their support and encouragement!”
Jon Cook, head coach for the EIU squad, said, “This is a great honor for these kids and I am proud of them for representing the state in such a positive manner.”
Iowa State Cup Director Jenny Wood shared her thoughts. “Congratulations to the coaches for getting their message across to players and their parents about the importance of practicing good sportsmanship. As they are the best teams in our state in their age groups, the players and coaches have shown that winning doesn’t have to come at the expense of good sportsmanship. I’m extremely proud of these teams and their coaches and appreciate how they represented Iowa Soccer at this high profile event.”
