Curriculum
Iowa Soccer's Developmental Camp is very intensive and includes technical, tactical and physiological components, as well as information on nutrition and injury prevention. Technical and tactical sessions are done during the day, while intra-camp competitions are held at night. With that, the coaches also make sure it is fun...ask any camper who has attended!
Birth Year Eligibility
Eligible age divisions are determined by birth year. In 2010, the eligible birth years for camp for girls are 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999. Eligible birth years for boys are 1997, 1998 and 1999.
Goalkeeper information
In past years' camps, Goalkeepers have had a couple separate training sessions, but they are no longer conducted. However, goalkeepers are still an integral part of the camp and for those that would like to play in goal at camp, he/she will have that option. Just make sure you check the "Want to play GK at camp" box on the registration form. This does not mean you will only play GK; it means you will be identified as a GK in addition to being identified as a field player.
Residential, overnight camp
Campers are housed two to a room in the air conditioned dormitories on the campus of Grinnell College. After registration closes, you will be asked for your roommate request, so do not submit until asked. If you don't have a request, Tawnya will assign your child a roommate. |
Camp Benefits |
| |
- Quality instruction from nationally-licensed coaches
- Further one's development as a player, no matter your level or playing goals
- Meet and compete against players from across the state
|
| Who Should Attend? |
| |
Developmental Camp is open to all Iowa Soccer players who fall within the eligible birth years. It is a demanding camp, but that should not deter any player who is unsure how they stack up against their peers, or is unsure where they want their soccer career to go. This is a great opportunity for recreational through select players to be exposed to a higher level of coaching and expectations, to compete against some of the best players in the state, and to have fun while being challenged.
► If you sign your child up for camp, he/she is expected to stay through the entire final day of camp. Campers will not be given permission to leave early. |
Parents, Volunteer to be a Chaperone! |
| |
One chaperone is assigned to every 16-18 players, plus there's a head chaperone who is not assigned a group.
- Please note that for risk-management reasons, we only accept female chaperones for the girl's camp.
- Female and male chaperones are accepted for the boy's camp.
- Days are long and hot, so be forewarned!
- Chaperones are not charged any camp fees.
- Chaperones are assigned a single room on the same floor as their child; children do not room with their chaperone parent.
- You need to be onsite earlier in the day on the first day of camp, and be able to stay throught the end of camp.
- We typically get more volunteers than we can use; if you're selected, you'll need to complete the Volunteer Disclosure Form.
- If interested in chaperoning, check the box on the registration form. You'll hear from Jenny shortly after camp registration closes.

| |
On the first day of camp, chaperones will meet with me starting at 4:00 for an orientation meeting. You'll have the chance to get you, and any campers you bring with you, into your dorm rooms between 3:15-3:45. Since we don't serve dinner that first night, please also plan to bring something to eat for yourself and your camper(s). |

| Foot Care Before and During Camp |
| |
► Parents, DO NOT send your player to camp with new cleats that have not yet been broken in; the result will be painful blisters, with your child likely having to sit out training and games.
If they are in line to get a new pair of cleats before camp, they need to get them soon and break them in NOW. They also need to bring their old pair with them and make sure they take them to every training session and match; if they start to feel a hot spot on their foot/feet, they need to stop and change into their old cleats immediately!
► Extra Socks at Camp...you can't bring enough soccer socks to camp! Please send enough socks for at least three dry pairs per day.
