Psst....pass it on...!logo-Iowa-Games

Each July there is a second recreational soccer event at the Hunziker Youth Sports Complex, but it isn't run by us (Iowa Soccer & Ames SC). It's a fun event that many of our member teams participate in annually and is run by a great organization, the Iowa Games.  For more information about the Summer Iowa Games and youth soccer option, click on their logo.

Spring Kohl's American Cup

Purposekohls-150

The Kohl's US Youth Soccer American Cup offers recreational soccer players an opportunity to play in a high-quality tournament in a fun atmosphere, where the emphasis is placed on participation, rather than competition.

Iowa Soccer's US Youth Soccer Kohl's American Cup is a guaranteed three-game, round-robin format. Scores and standings are not kept in the U10-below divisions, and all participants receive a participation award. In U11-above divisions, semifinal and final matches are held, with members of the first- and second-place teams each receiving awards.

This US Youth Soccer event is the largest recreational youth soccer festival in the United States, boasting more than 65,000 participants. The Iowa Soccer Association has run a US Youth Soccer American Cup every year since 1992. Kohl's Department stores is the most recent national sponsor.

Team & Player Eligibility

This event is for Iowa Soccer member teams classified as Level 3.  You are not allowed to assemble a "tournament team roster" for this event; Kohl's American Cup is for the regular-season roster/team.  Each player must have a current US Youth Soccer player pass for that team.

NEW!!  U15-U19 Players:  Free Play Festival, held Saturday night under the lights

Last fall we tried something new for U15-U19 players -- a "Free Play Festival" -- and it was a HUGE hit, so we're going to offer it again!  We've designed a fun competition option that may better reflect the amount of time players in these age groups can commit to soccer and to give the high school aged players a one-night soccer event to cap off their spring season.

How it works:

  • You enter as an individual player, so no worries about getting enough players for a team in order to be able to enter.
  • We will put you on teams of four to play 4v4.  Every game you play, you'll be rotated onto a different team of four.  You will be playing co-ed with all ages.
  • You win the competition as an individual, not a team!  We keep track of your points and at the end of the night, we'll name winners.
  • The competition will begin no earlier than 7:00pm on Saturday night.  You'll play on the lighted field at Hunziker Youth Sports Complex and we'll have the lights on!
  • You'll play for about two hours.  We will compile individuals' results and name the winners at the end of the evening.
  • While we're compiling results, you guys will be chowing down on food!

Eligibility:

  • Open to any currently-registered Iowa Soccer U15-U19 Level 3 (recreational) players
  • We're going to keep it tight and limit entry to the first 32 players; entries beyond 32 will be put on a waitlist and contacted when openings occur.  If entries absolutely blow up, we may expand our numbers, but initially, it's going to be the first 32 to commit!

Entry:

  • $15 to enter; may pay by credit card or mail in a check
  • Link to entry available March 1

Guest Player Allowance for KAC

The Kohl's American Cup (KAC) is targeted to and intended for regular-season rosters.  If you need to add a Guest Player(s) in order for your team to enter, that is what the Allowance is designed for.  We understand that not all players or parents can commit to a full weekend of soccer.  And we know that some regular-season rosters barely have enough players to field a team and need subs in order to play in a tournament.  You may use the Guest Player Allowance only AFTER

  • You've asked all players on your team if they are available to play in KAC and some are not, or
  • You have a small roster and would like to have extra players for substitution reasons.

Every attempt must be made to find guest players who are of like skill -- don't seek out 'ringers' -- that is not in the spirit of the Allowance.

REGULAR-SEASON MAXIMUM ROSTER SIZES STILL APPLY -- YOU MAY NOT ADD GUEST PLAYERS SUCH THAT IT TAKES YOUR ROSTER OVER THE ALLOWABLE MAXIMUM.

  • U07-08 = 8
  • U09-10 = 10
  • U11-12 = 14
  • U13-14 Boys = 22

In a past Kohl's American Cup event, it was confirmed that a coach abused the guest player allowance -- and the coach will not coach at a KAC event again.  We rely on coaches to do the right thing and we conduct our own queries on the information provided below.  Disregard for the requirements of the Allowance will be penalized accordingly.

Guest Player Allowance:

1)  You have asked all members of your team to play and some cannot.  Or, you have a small roster and need guest players so your team has substitutions.

2)  Up to three guest players are allowed and may only be Iowa Soccer-registered players.

3)  Guest players must be Level 3 registered players (a.k.a. 'recreational') and cannot be classified also as Level 2 or Level 1.

4)  Guest players do not need to be from your club, but must be currently registered with Iowa Soccer.

5)  You must submit this form by TBA..  Any forms received after the deadline will not be accepted.

6)  You are not permitted to submit a Guest Player form onsite, nor are you allowed to declare Guest Players onsite.  No exceptions!

7)  Regular-season maximum roster sizes apply.

8)  Iowa Soccer officials will make the final determination on the eligibility of Guest Players.

The Guest Player Form is closed
