Iowa Soccer Association's Olympic Development Program (ODP)
The development of players in Iowa is primarily the direct responsibility of our affiliate clubs and ODP should not interfere with that development. It is the responsibility of ISA to supplement that development by identifying and allowing the best players in the state to play along side each other and against other select teams domestically and internationally. The success of the Iowa ODP is a direct result of the quality of players, coaches and competition within Iowa.

US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) Philosophy & Purpose
To identify players of the highest caliber on a continuing and consistent basis, which will lead to increased success for the U.S. National Teams in the international arena.
The US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program was formed in 1977 to identify a pool of players in each age group from which a National Team will be selected for international competition; to provide high-level training to benefit and enhance the development of players at all levels; and, through the use of carefully selected and licensed coaches, develop a mechanism for the exchange of ideas and curriculum to improve all levels of coaching. |
Fall 2007 Changes in the ODP Program: What they are and why.
With the implementation this fall of the USSF Academies, the State and National Olympic Development Programs are likely to change considerably over the next one to three years. The extent of these changes will not be known until early next year and therefore ISA has decided to not hold tryouts for the 1991, 1992 and 1993 boys' teams until more information is available concerning the 2007/2008 ODP program.
In addition, ISA is reviewing the Girls’ Olympic Development Program to determine whether or not the youngest girls would be better served attending more in-state training or intra-state events without having to attend a regional developmental camp and therefore there will not be a 95/96 ODP team for the 2007/2008 season. The youngest girls’ ODP teams attend a developmental-only regional camp, where no selections are made. Therefore, by not attending regional camp, players do not lose any identification opportunities. A decision will be made concerning the direction of the girls’ Olympic Development Program in 2008. 1995 players can tryout for the 1994 birth year team.
