Wiley, Koroleva to Officiate at National Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa (June 30, 2006) -- Two referees from Iowa have been selected to officiate at the 2006 US Youth Soccer National Championships, held July 25-30 at the Cownie Soccer Park in Des Moines, Iowa.

Landis Wiley (left) was selected as one of nine Referees, and Katja Koroleva (right) as one of three Assistant Referees who will represent the Midwest Region at the National Championships in July.   They were chosen out of a pool of 190 officials who worked the Midwest Region Championships held in late June in Fox Cities, Wis. and join 35 total Referees and 11 total Assistant Referees coming from across the four regions.

Previous Iowa referees selected to officiate at the National Championships include Terry Vaughn, Faith Rossi, Mike Lucht, Hidajet Tica and Dan Cataldi.   This is Wiley’s second trip to the National Championships, having been selected in 2004 to attend as an assistant referee in Orlando, Fla.

The US Youth Soccer National Championships serve as the crown jewel of competitive youth soccer as the nation’s top 48 youth soccer teams, in the Under-14 through Under-19 Boys and Girls brackets, compete for the coveted National Championship title.

The finals are a culmination of a year-long series of competitions at the state and regional levels. The US Youth Soccer National Championship Series provides approximately 129,000 players on 7,200 teams from US Youth Soccer’s 55 State Associations the opportunity to showcase their soccer skills against the best competition in the nation, while emphasizing teamwork, discipline and fair play.
